Do you eChalk? Perhaps worth a look....

There are some great established educational resources out there which are gradually being migrated to the iPad. Once such tool is eChalk which has been around for at least ten years but was originally, like many resources, written all in flash and therefore would not work on a mobile device.

eChalk, if you haven't heard of it, is a global teachers' favourite online resource with interactive activities and games, some resources are free but most are accessed via a school subscription. It is mainly used in our school by Maths and Science (I believe) but it would be great to know if other subjects also find it useful since it now covers many curriculum areas.

Not only is eChalk now accessible on a browser on a mobile device (see image below) but the company have also developed separate free apps under the developer name of Lumpty Learning. Some of these apps, like the fractions one, are stand-alone but the current English and Physics apps let you sign in with your school registration details to access a range of subject specific content previously only available online but now also available offline on your iPad. See Physics here and English here, and here for a complete list of their mobile apps (iOS, Android and Blackberry and Amazon). Not everything is mobile friendly yet but they are getting there.

The best thing about having tools like this available on a mobile platform is that it has shifted great hands-on activities from the white board, under the control of the teacher, directly into to the hands and brains of the students themselves.

The screenshots above really don't do eChalk justice as it is an interactive resource so best experienced for yourself. Why not log in with our school login details (just search "echalk login" on SMO to find them) and have a go for yourself.

Extension: Why not make http://www.echalk.co.uk a 'web app' on your iPad to save yourself time. See here for details of how to do this.
